Susan M. Awbrey is Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Professor of Education at Oakland University (a mid-sized, public institution of approximately 17,000 students in Michigan). Dr. Awbrey led a successful general education reform initiative and consulted with other institutions on effective renewal of general education. She coordinated the Foundations of Excellence project on her campus and is committed to building a foundation of success for undergraduate students through collaboration across academic and student affairs divisions. She researches the area of organizational change in higher education and specializes in the development of integrative, connected universities. Dr. Awbrey led a comprehensive visit and focused visits by the institution's regional accrediting agency, the Higher Learning Commission of the NCA. In addition to numerous responsibilities as VP of Undergraduate Education she has oversight of the university's interdisciplinary degree program, the honors college, and the office of international education. Integrating successful change initiatives into institutional culture to improve the quality of education is her passion. At Oakland she is a former American Council on Education Fellow, assistant vice president, and department chair. Dr. Awbrey is the author of numerous publications as well as a presenter at national and international conferences. Prior to joining Oakland University, Dr. Awbrey was a faculty member and administrator at Michigan State University, University of Illinois, and University of Texas.
