Jerry Greenfield is Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor at University of Wisconsin-Parkside. His direct administrative responsibilities include First Year Experience Programs, Advising and Testing, Educational Support Services (Trio Program, Disability Student Services, and Learning Assistance), Pre-college Programs and Grants. He also provides leadership for assessment, faculty/staff development, and new program development. He served as campus liaison for both phases of the Foundations of Excellence in the First College Year.
Prior to assuming his present administrative role, he spent nearly three decades as a professor of history. During that time, he served several terms as Chair of the History Department, Director of the International Studies Program, and Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. In that latter role, he helped initiate the campus' involvement with community based learning and established an annual all-university conference on teaching and learning. He has received the university's Teaching Excellence Award and Distinguished Service Award, and is a member of the Southeast Wisconsin Educators Hall of Fame. He has authored or edited several scholarly books on Latin America, as well as a widely used public school text, held a Fulbright professorship in Brazil, and was a consultant to the Bilateral Commission on US-Mexico Relations and the Kellogg/Mexico Project.
He has made presentations at numerous state, regional, national, and international conferences, in both his scholarly discipline and on issues in higher education, and has experience assisting institutions interested in developing and strengthening programs to enhance the success of First Year students. With a deep understanding of academic cultures and substantial hands-on experience, he brings special strengths to strategies and processes for implementing change.
