Lillie Howard

Dr. Lillie Howard, Senior Vice President for Curriculum and Instruction, and Professor of English at Wright State University, has thirty two years of experience in higher education. At Wright State, she has broad university-wide responsibility, in collaboration with faculty, for the undergraduate curriculum, including general education; writing across the curriculum; the first year experience; learning communities; student retention; faculty development; the teaching and learning environment, including university classrooms; regional accreditation; and many other areas. In addition to the above, she is also responsible for a number of Academic Affairs support units, including the Center for Teaching and Learning, the University Honors Program, Office of the Registrar, Pre-College Programs, Asian/Hispanic/Native American Center, Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center, Women Center, Air Force/Army ROTC, and the coordination of Writing Across the Curriculum, General Education, and Service Learning.  In 2005-06, Dr. Howard chaired the university's Foundations of Excellence for the First Year of College Task Force, while simultaneously serving as the Self-Study Coordinator and chair of the University's NCA/HLC Reaccreditation Self-Study Process.  She has successfully led university teams in a number of other areas, including enrollment management, student retention, classrooms of the future, and creation of the University College. Dr. Howard has served as a consultant-evaluator for NCA, a reviewer for FIPSE and the National Endowment for the Humanities, and on numerous committees for the Ohio Board of Regents. Over the past decade, she has twice received the Wright State University President's Award for Excellence for her leadership, strong commitment to excellence, and overall achievements; individuals and units within her division have been similarly recognized, particularly for their commitment to human relations and to collaborating with others toward the achievement of common goals.
